Playa Guiones is a charming little beach community that belongs to the town of Nosara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
You can fly direct from many cities in North America to Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose (SJO), in the center of Costa Rica or Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia (LIR), in Guanacaste province, closer to the Pacific Ocean.
Liberia Airport is the nearest international airport to Nosara; and it is a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Nosara and Playa Guiones. The journey from San Jose airport takes about 5-hours.
When traveling within Costa Rica, we recommend getting on a daily international phone plan if possible, as it is very helpful in navigating GPS, taxis, and restaurant reservations. Otherwise, you can use Wifi when it is available.
GETTING TO NOSARA FROM THE AIRPORT
Our favorite options (in no particular order) for traveling to Nosara, are:
We recommend using Terratour or contacting our good friend Pipin (contact information in the activities section)
Shuttles are very safe, but are a bit longer than flying the small plane or driving your rent-a-car. Keep in mind that the final road into Nosara does get a bit bumpy so if you are prone to car sickness, we recommend flying or driving your own rent-a-car.
Great drivers who can stop for snacks, beers, and bathroom stops along the way. Plenty available at the airport.
Costa Rica is one of the safest places we have ever been, so getting around is a breeze, and every choice of transportation is trustworthy.
You can also rent a car, there are numerous companies, but this is the one we like the most!
SHORT FLIGHTS FROM LIBERIA/ SAN JOSE TO NOSARA
Nosara Airport is just 15 minutes away from Playa Guiones. SANSA Airlines (www.flysansa.com) offers daily flights to/from Nosara airport to both Liberia and San Jose airports.
Charter flights and helicopters to Nosara airport are also available upon request (this is also booked directly through Sansa and is a good option if you are coming as a larger group). Flight times may be more flexible and work well with international arrival times.
GETTING AROUND TOWN
We recommend renting a golf cart or four wheeler through Pipin (+506-8969-7444) or Limo Dan.
There are also shuttles available to get you around town and you can check with your hotel reception directly who can schedule those for you.
Nosara also has Tuk Tuk's (their version of two person red taxis) available upon demand. Their home base is outside of The Gilded Iguana and all drivers use Whatsapp. So, you can ask for their number and contact them directly for the remainder of your trip.
